How long does domain transfer take?

一月 10, 2025

Domain name transfer-in: It usually refers to transferring a domain name from one domain registrar to a new one. The original domain registrar is generally called the "transfer-out party," while the new domain registrar is referred to as the "transfer-in party." There are many reasons for transferring a domain, such as renewal fee prices, lack of features, domain registration requirements, or the need to unify domain and hosting management, etc. The process of transferring a domain out  is also known as "domain name transfer."

How long does it take to transfer a domain name in?

(1) Standard transfer-in: It generally takes 7 calendar days from the time the domain transfer interface is submitted. The emphasis on "from the time the domain transfer interface is submitted" is important because some registrars may not immediately submit the transfer operation request to the registry after you submit the transfer. In other words, you may have just filled out a transfer form and paid the relevant fees with the domain registrar, but the registrar may not have submitted it to the registry in real-time. This means the transfer process has not actually started. It could be that the registrar submits it later or waits for the domain owner to click a confirmation link before proceeding with the transfer. We usually determine this by checking the domain's Whois information. If a domain is in the "transfer process," its Whois status will be "pendingTransfer." From this status, if you don't opt for a quick transfer, it will take 7 calendar days.

(2) Quick transfer-in: Also known as "quick transfer" or "instant transfer." This starts from the time the domain's Whois status is "pendingTransfer" (in the transfer process). You can check the domain transfer status with the original registrar. The original registrar will typically send a "transfer-out confirmation" email or link. By clicking this link, you are agreeing to an immediate transfer. The "instant transfer" then takes effect, and the domain registrar will be changed immediately, marking the successful transfer.
